This thesis analyzes the reproduction and transmission of Peony Pavilion in UnitedStates, and the theoretical foundation of this thesis should be the relationships ofconformation of the tradition, the creation of the new theater and the deterritorializationalprocess of these three Peony Pavilion productions.My first chapter is about the choice of the play of three productions. The choice of theplay plays a significant role in the expression of the spiritual meaning of Peony Pavilion,which is the most important element of Kun Opera. The second chapter analyzes thesynthetically application of theater esthetics in these three productions, since theappearance of the stage expresses the relationship of the tradition and the creation. Mythird chapter analyzes the impacts of the performance of the actors. The final chapterresearches the differences of the cultural background and the impacts of these culturalconflicts and cultural communication, which should be the key element of the transmissionof Kun Opera. These communications and conflicts not only offer the opportunities oftransmission, but also may bring about the misunderstanding and distort of Kun Opera inthe process of deterritorialization.Thus, this thesis analyzes and researches the reproduction of Kun Opera PeonyPavilion, and concludes the advantages and disadvantages of staging Kun opera. What’smore, this thesis offers the reference of the future research of the transmission of KunOpera in abroad.
