Akira Kurosawa, is one of the most famous directors in the world. He made the world hear of his fame by Rashmon、Shichinin no samurai, and has been praised by Steven Spielberg of "Shakespeare in filmdom". Akira Kurosawa is not only an outstanding director,but also a successful playwright. His works are international and full of distinctive national features. He opened up the way to the world for Japanese movies. This thesis will point out the change of motif of his works, and discuss the whole process of humanity and life,war and peace during three different periods. We analysed how Japanese’traditional culture embody in Akira Kurosawa’s works. There are four chapters in this thesis:The first part, introduction. We will explain the general situation of research on this topic, and the sense and method of doing research on it. Then we briefly introduce Akira Kurosawa’s creation background and main works.The chapter two,is the experience of Akira Kurosawa and the lifetime in movies.We divided his works for three periods and draw his experience during his grow up by dream. Analysis of phototropism in Kurosawa’s filmThe chapter three, we do research phototropism on his opinions changes on humanity and life,war and peace from his early, midterm and later period works.The chpter four,we extension phototropism to the Japanese traditional culture. And we analysed the traditional culture in Akira Kurosawa’s movies.
