Research On Textual Structure And Metaphor Mode Of Linguistics Academic Thesis Abstracts

This paper researches the textual structure and metaphor mode of linguistics academic thesis abstracts, and analyzes structure characteristics and language features on linguistics academic thesis abstracts from macroscopic and microscopic view. This paper discusses textual structure and metaphor mode of thesis absract respectively with "genre analysis theory" and "grammatical metaphor theory".At present, the studies on linguistics academic thesis abstracts are very few from the view of Systemic-Functional Linguistics, and it is a blank studing especially on Chinese abstract of paper. This paper put Chinese linguistics academic thesis abstracts into the framework of Systemic-Functional Linguistics theory, studying from the point of view of textual analysis.This paper collects the abstracts from five comprehensive Chinese core Journals on linguistics published papers in2010, to establish the corpus of paper abstract. Based on analysis of the corpus, the paper puts forward the basic form and variation form of textual structure of linguistics academic thesis abstract, and expounds the types, characteristics and functions of metaphor of linguistics academic thesis abstract from the ideational metaphor, interpersonal metaphor, textual metaphor and cognitive metaphor perspectives.The specific frame of the whole text as follows:The first chapter points out the contents, purpose and meaning of the reaearch, combing the research achievements in this field, explaining the corpus source, research methods and so on.The second chapter studies the textual structure of linguistics academic thesis abstracts. Based on the analysis of the corpus, the paper puts forward the basic form of textual structure of the linguistics academic thesis abstract as BIMRD mode (B and D for optional step), and puts forward four kinds of variation form of textual structure. At last, it points out that the internal differences of linguistics discipline will not influence the textual structure of thesis abstract.The third chapter researches metaphor mode of linguistics academic thesis abstracts, the metaphor mode is divided into grammatical metaphor and cognitive metaphor. Taking Halliday’s grammatical metaphor theory as a foundation, this paper analyzes the types, characteristics and functions of ideational metaphor, interpersonal metaphor and textual metaphor of linguistics academic thesis abstracts.Finally, this paper points out there is complementary between grammatical metaphor and cognitive metaphor, and neither should be neglected in linguistics academic thesis abstracts.This paper analyzes the Chinese abstract of linguistics academic thesis with "genre analysis theory" and "grammatical metaphor theory" to investigate the feasibility and applicability when the theories are used to analyze the Chinese language phenomenon.The research results on textual structure and metaphor mode of linguistics academic thesis abstracts in this paper can be applied to abstracts writing and teaching practice.
