The Song Dynasty is a special period in the history of Taoist novel. During this period, Refined and Popular Culture developed together, the whole culture had presented a secular and civilian tendency. This kind of social atmosphere made Taoist novels of this time show the same characteristics:there have been a lot of novels which show the lower classes’living customs. At the same time, the generation of new doctrine and the rise of the inner elixir are also reflected in the novels as a new theme. Based on the Song Dynasty novels in "Dao Zang", this paper tries to get a basic study of the Song Dynasty Taoist novel on these aspects of the general situation, the theme and creative features.At the beginning of this paper, an overview of the characteristics of the Song Dynasty, Taoism and Taoist novel provides the background of a basic reference for full-text research. Subsequently the general situation, writing skill and ideological content of the Song Dynasty fictions will be analyzed. On this basis, the paper focuses on the creative theme, the characters and representative works. At last, the influence and limitations of the Song Dynasty novel in "Dao Zang" would be summarized.Due to the strong religious purpose of the Taoist novel, Song Dynasty novels in "Dao Zang" has a very obvious religious theme, so the thematic study has been treated as a focus here. At the same time, influenced by the entire era’s cultural atmosphere, Taoist novels in Song Dynasty have a very evident secular tendency. Reflected in Taoist novel, the immortal portrayed in the works also have a very distinct secular characteristic. So this article tries to analysis these immortal characters from these aspects:living place, the Cultivation standard and civilian identity. Among all those novels, with the high artistic achievement,"The Odd people of Jiang huai" is one of the most representative works, its article features would be discussed specially.
