As people become increasingly familiar with design, we would also set higher requirements for it. Thus it becomes one of the most important issues in modern interior designthat how to balance the practical function and spiritual needs in space. The painting decoration in space, emerging in such an environment, is a design method which can combine the bothneeds aforesaidThis paper discusses the "spatialization" in finishing and the design methods under the influence of modern interior design. It discusses in detail how print images can influence spacial atmosphere, and how print images communicate with human beings--only when we relate the three parties systematically as a whole can we reveal the charm and advantages of the spatial decorative paint.First, the paper begins its discussion from the origin of space painting. It analysed that in primitive times, building construction and space decoration are both for spiritual satisfaction which are not contradictory--finishing can complement and enrich construction space. Painting as a method is closely related to human being and it will not take up space, thus is in line with the requirements of modern society.Second, the paper, starting from how finishing deals with the relation between space and patterns, concludes the history and evolution of finishing, sums up the differences between the painting decoration in space and the traditional finishing:In essence, the traditional finishing is a form of painting, while the spatial decorative paint is means of shaping space in which space and patterns are inseparable and are constituent elements of each other. For designers, this design method requires more:in addition to the basis for space design and graphic design, a comprehensive ability to think in a multi-dimensional and interdisciplinary way is more important. Therefore, it is necessary for the designers to expand their knowledge on design, so that they can get a clear understanding of the combination of multi-domain and the impact on each other, and thus realize the prospects of the painting decoration in space and pay enough attention. Then, the paper discusses in depth the formation, special depiction, design techniques and the evolution of the related elements from the starting point of the influence of modern environment on finishing. By this, the paper tries to provide a systematic understanding on space finishing for designers.Forth, the paper elaborates on the relationship between space and the print image, space and human. The paper proposes an unique "growth" which space gives to patterns in3-dimensional space, and thus giving more expressive force to the images and patterns. The2dimensional patterns complement the space in that space itself can carry and convey limited meanings and connotations. Thus, space and patterns together form a interdisciplinary "super wholeness" across spaces. Also, based on the research on visual regulations and environmental psychology, the paper proposes the "principle of appropriateness" and "design of vagueness" to further adapt people’s behavioural and psychological habits, so as to create more comfortable and thoughtful space environment and better satisfy peoples spiritual needs.
