A Study On Soul Views Of Han Dynasty

People are always searching for the personal existential significance. It is this search that differs people from other living beings on the earth.To understand this problem, the first we should do is to find out the reason of our own existence.Through an investigation of the primitive civilization of ancient China,Hebrew,Greek,Egypt,India,Babylon.and so on.We can discover that it is common for the early humans to consider the soul as the reason they exist. In other words,the notion of soul is an understanding to people’s own lives and a search for the personal existential significance.Different national characteristics and cultural traditions has come into being according to different understandings of this question. Han Dynasty was a period that the Chinese national characteristics and cultural traditions has roughly came into being before they were influenced by some foreign cultures such as the Buddhism.There is no doubt that it is very significant to have an investigation of the soul views in such an era.The main body of this thesis included two piece.as the center vaule of soul views.to investigate the Han people’s views which about the natural and the conform life of themselves comprehensively.which from the nature to the phenomenon of soul, from being to transcendence.In the three chapters of the first piece, respectiely on three questions about "the cause of the phenomenon of human life","the relationship of spirit and body" and "how the human exist after die",to investigate the Han people’s views of the phenomena of life and death which happen to himself.in other words.to investigate the views of the human being. In the opinion of the people in the Han Dynasty.the existence of life originate from the soul.The soul consists of "spirit" and "vigor", they come from the heaven and the earth and are the causes of the existence of people’s spiritual phenomenon and physical strength. The combination of the spirit and the body forms people’s life, and the separation of them means the death of people. The sanctity of the world make people’s soul sacred,as a result, the sacred soul tends to be eternal.However,the reality is that people is mortal.The mortal things could not bring people meaning.only the eternal things are meaningful.Consequently,The sanctity of the soul drives people to exceed this limited existence and reach the God’s realm of eternality. Being a sacred god is the most ideal form of existence for the Han people.In the second piece of this thesis,will investigate the understanding of the human’s conform life of Han people,in other words.to investigate the way how to beyond this life for the Han people which around the difference between immortal and mortal. The most obvious difference between immortal and mortal were eternal and mortal,free and chains, highest good and both good and evil. In the three chapters of this piece,will respectiely on the three difference.The immortal’s body and soul were break through the restriction of time and space.so they could attain the almightiness.freedom and eternity which are owned by the God. However.this is not the whole point of life. Adding years to life is not the ultimate meaning of life.the point of life is to acquire more than life.The part which more than life embodies for soul’s phenomenon. The reason why the soul have the phenomenon just like its name, because it is intelligential.It is this spirituality that make people approach the divine.And the spirituality.The God is not only almighty and immortal, but also holy.Therefore, the perfect virtue becomes one of the characteristics of the immortal.The notion of soul believed by the people in Han Dynasty fully reflects their understanding of life itself.For them,the existence of people is a unity of nature.spirit and society,not a single form of existence among them.A man is not is a person if he lacks anyone of them. People is also a kind of open and unfinished being.The whole life of people is a process to exceed the limits.a process to pursuit the eternal meaning of life,a process to exceed the natural existence on the basis of it.
