Jiang Wen is a very special actor and film director in current moviedom of China. His acting style is popular with audience, and he won the best actor prize of Hundred Flowers Award twice. He developed his own directing style, and from his first film In the Heat of the Sun in1994, the films under his direction caused wide attention and controversy. There has been much discussion about his feature and style as a director, though there is no comprehensive research on the unique and outstanding adaptation of his films so far (Jiang Wen always adapts a novel into the film script, and takes part in the script writing by himself). This article started from the choice of the novels made by Jiang Wen, and discussed his mentality and fine conception in the adaptation, especially his persistent pursuit of the theme "youth" and the continuous expression of this theme in his works. The adaptation of Jiang Wen is a process that he rebuilds his figure. Once an actor, he is adjusting and looking for his position in the adaptation.The structure of this article is as follows:in the first chapter the choice and adaptation of novels and the standard of his choice were discussed; in the second chapter some frames and voices in his films were used as examples to analyze how he express the conception got from novels in films; in the third chapter, with the clue of the first two chapters, the theme Jiang Wen pursues and his narration about himself in the adaptation were analyzed.
