The strategies of foreignizing and domesticating are used in translation. The former refers to the source-language-centered translation and the latter refers to the target-language-centered translation. Both the strategies of foreignizing and domesticating can be justified in their own right based on the consideration of the differences in languages and culture, ideology, the purpose of translation, the attitude of the author, the type of texts and the demanding of the readership. Translation is a process in which translators make decisions, while the translator’s choice of strategies is affected by different factors. Foreignizing and domesticating have been a heated problem in translation circles for their respective advantages. No matter which strategy is chosen, it aims to help readers understand the cultural differences and exchange cultures.
