After the Second World War, the United States has emerged many excellent Jewish writers, such as Saul Bellow and Isaac Bashevis Singer, Philip Roth and Malamud. They occupied an important position as a group in the American literature and even world literature. Through the comparison, we found that, although there is a very big difference in the content of their works, for example, in the works of Saul Bellow、Isaac Bashevis Singer and Malamud, Bernard, the protagonists’Jewish identity were emphasized, these authors also gave priority to describing the life situation and moral doctrines of the Jews, while Philip Roth mercilessly taunted and criticized the traditional Judaism by characters in his works. However, whether emphasize or criticize it, intentionally or not, one thing is similar, the contemporary American Jewish writer’s Jewish characters all possess strong Jewish national characteristic--Jewish nature. Even more important, these characters reflect the same important issues in different levels, that is, how it deeply rooted in Jewish tradition stroke and assimilated by omnipresent American culture, which brings them with strong identity confusion and anxiety, eventually, to this phenomenon of existence dilemma and identity crisis. Research on the identity of the American Jewish writers’characters, we can understand the diasporas Jews’heart, and see the relationship, conflict, fusion between American way of life and the Jewish tradition. I believe that it is significant to the research on the Jewish literature and the world national identity. And this paper will be significant on the identity of the contemporary American Jews’direction for future, their survival and development. In the first chapter, I mainly analyze the description of their living environment and behaviors of many contemporary American Jewish writers’characters, which have reflected on the contemporary American Jews of traditional Jewish cultural factors, such as god voters view, superior ideas and suffering consciousness, the good faith, the equality spirit kernel, these thoughts and emotions deep-rooted in the heart of the Jews carved above, and these had brought them the firm faith and strong national cohesion.however, brings them more suffering. The Jews’ contribution to the world is remarkable, and most of them in the countries all over the world lived diasporas, in a very difficult situation. On one hand, the traditional Jewish cultures deeply rooted in their heart, take the equality, the good faith, the law constraining people; On the other hand, the American way of life already exists and hits their moral system. The second chapter mainly discusses the deeply rooted Jewish and Christ tradition, especially the American way of life of the gap between deep and mutual hostility. American Jews in such a fierce ideological impact, in their own emotions, thinking of the deep adjustment process, they are never mind, also can’t be develops, open to, but the experience of the internal waves, and constantly make psychological adjustment, so as to adapt to the complexity of the social and cultural change, their heart very entanglements, and so confused and pain, identity in crisis. They have been trying to seek their own more reasonable identity way, or choose the confrontation, or in the contradiction between assimilation and against the entanglements, and more people are in the assimilation of mud. However, in this quest, they don’t have to explore the rational orientation, but again it into a deeper identity crisis. From these characters body, we see it easily, the jewfish identity a fixed development tendency, namely their body innate jewfish nature is gradually and contemporary American mainstream values the fusion, identity to multiplex, this kind of trend is the true portraiture of cultural change, it reflects in the contemporary American Jews to the constant change of the identity and adjustment between, it is two kinds of culture blending, the inevitable result of the impact. In the third chapter, this paper mainly discusses that they how to find their spiritual home under this case, for that, Ⅰ made through the seek identity balance, to find the answer of the spirit utopia. This is also the subject to the problem which we are trying to study in. Diaspora Jews in the United States, on the cultural blood is complicated. In such a assimilation and assimilation process, the identity of the Jews in the United States, most importantly, or the Jews realize their own identity deification, and seek a good way to realize both communication, mutual respect and understanding, to obtain tolerance, harmonious coexistence, that for all the Jewish Diaspora and got to the common development of the people benefits! However, how to write the future of their double identity, and to solve the crisis? To this problem, this paper also did further discussion.
