Richard Wright has been called the father of black American literature, and his representative work Native Son has been regarded as a milestone of black literature. Richard Wright and his work Native Son have been favored by the scholars at home and abroad for hundred years. There have been already plenty of excellent researches published, which has pushed the study of Richard Wright and Native Son a climax. Although in our academic circles, there are many study achievement in Native Son, few scholars choose the view of the aesthetics of readers to consider why Native Son recognized universally in so many years. This paper attempts to start from the aesthetic point, combined with key figures, the themes and artistic techniques to analysis Wright’s pre-designed reader’s expectation horizon, potential Reader’s expectation horizon in Native Son and the significance and value of reader’s expectation horizon in Native Son.Apart from introduction and conclusion, this thesis contains three chapters. The first chapter presents the author’s perfect understanding about the reality of age and the situation of different people, and how Wright chooses the racial discrimination as the theme of work in order to reach the pre-designed reader’s expectation horizon in Native Son. In the second chapter, all the creation highlights the new black image, the unique symbols and four methods of descriptions showed the multi-ways the writer to create the potential reader’s expectation horizon in Native Son. The third chapter aims to analyze the Native Son in the typical role of racial themes and artistic characteristics of persistence to reflect significance and value of reader’s expectation horizon in Native Son.Due to the limited length, the paper only simply analyzes the work from the aesthetic point. It can not analyze in very depth and thorough. However; the results of this paper has filled a certain blank in academic circles from the readers’ perspective, and made a contribution to the researches of Wright and Native Son.
