Western abstract expressionism and modern Chinese ink painting are two different art forms. These two forms have different characteristics. The Western abstract expressionism deriving form the United States is an important turning point of modern Western art, on which the center of modern Western art transferred from Paris to’New York. Having broken the traditional style of ink painting and absorbed the characteristics of Western abstract expressionism, the modern Chinese ink painting came into being and thrived. Though they share some similar ways of express the emotions, they are still different because of the different cultural soils they grown up from. Painting, as an art form of expression, is able to reflect the time and environment in which it was born. Since the modern Chinese ink painting has made great progress, modern Chinese artists still need to take pains to make it stand out form the frost of world art.
