This thesis studies on the musical structure and its style of The Night of The Banquet (Op.35), four scenes chamber opera composed by GUO Wenjing. Through the technique of music analysis, and in the basis of abundant empirical research. The paper discussed the key points of the opera’s musical creation, focused on its dramatic structure, music structure, relationship of the materials and structural integrity, opera’s structural counterpoint and so on. The full text comprised five parts:Introduction:This part introduced the significance of the study and existing researches pertinent to this domain. In addition to this, this part described the creation over view of Guo Wenj ing’s opera, tradition of western opera, and the summarize of Chinese opera.Chapter one:Analysis of the librettos. The Night of The Banquet comprised four scenes, three includes and one coda. This formation consists of five gradations:prelude, beginning, middle part, ending and coda. And the gradations were discussed with the drama creation.Chapter two:Music Analysis. The chapter includes The Night of The Banquet’s macroscopic description and analysis.musical image and The main materials of the layout. There is concentrated symmetrical musical formalized process by the variation. This part also proclaimed the theatrical compositional technique in this opera.Chapter three:The Night of The Banquet’s music styles and its composer in literary attitude, painting attitude and drama attitude. This chapter explained the beauty of literature, painting and structure in this opera. And discussed the structural counterpoint and the fusion of drama concept.Conclusion:In this thesis, all-round discussion based on the musical structure and its style of The Night of The Banquet and two dynamics and two controlling power of the opera’s music structure. The conflicts that Guo Wenjing captures in his opera, between Western opera and Chinese opera, musical language and literary language, create powerful dramatic momentum.
