On The Translation Of Fuzzy Language In Yeats’ Poetry Based On Contextual Dynamic Adaptability

William Butler Yeats (1865–1939) is not only acknowledged as one of the mostimportant literary figures, but also a miracle of English poetry in the twentieth century.He was a productive poet in all his life. His poems, based on Irish traditions and reallife, never stopped taking in fine art forms domestically and from abroad. And finally,by combining the perceptual with the rational, and the symbolic with the real, hewrote poems “full of inspiration”, as well as drama and literary criticism, becoming awell-known master both in Ireland and other countries.Yeats has exerted a profound influence on various modern poems. In westerncountries, study of Yeats has become a branch of learning, and academic worksregarding him are too many to count. While in China, Yeats has also influenced somepoets, like Nine Leaves in forties. So far, there have been several Chinese versionsconcerning Yeats’ works, and more and more Chinese readers have enjoyed a lot fromhis works. So it is no doubt that exploring Yeats’ works is of great value.Based on contextual dynamic adaptability, this paper tries to deal with theclassification and translation of fuzzy language, mainly fuzzy words and fuzzy imagesin Yeats’ representative poems. By comparing and analyzing the two Chinese versionsof Fu Hao, Yuan Kejia, the author makes some findings as follows.First, fuzzy language in Yeats’ poems mainly falls into two types, namely, fuzzywords and fuzzy images. Second, through an analysis of the two versions andtranslation methods, the author finds out that contextual dynamic adaptability canprovide a solid theoretical foundation for translation of the fuzzy language. Last,according to contextual dynamic adaptability, in dealing with the fuzzy language inYeats’ poems, translators should bear in mind that they must try to keep the features ofthe source text on the basis of correctly understanding it, and that if, contexts betweenthe two languages conflict with each other, they must choose to adapt to the context of the target readers in order to meet the goal of communication. Only by doing this canthe translation work be acceptable by target readers.
