With the upgrading of China’s comprehensive national strength and international status,"China fever" quietly heats up all over the world. Learning Chinese becomes a world trend. As China’s friendly neighbors and one of the overseas Chinese main habitations, Thailand has increasingly frequent variety of communication with China in recent years. In Thai foreign language learning, Chinese plays a more and more important role with the growing number of Chinese learners. Vocabulary teaching is the core content in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, which purpose is to train foreign students’ ability of knowing、recognizing、choosing and using words and to develop their correct understanding and expressing skills in communication. The vocabulary teaching is good or bad directly affects the whole process of Chinese teaching. While, the vocabulary is one of the most important factors that to determine whether the second language learning is success or not.In this paper, the author arranged the vocabulary that Thai Chinese learners had already studied from primary to intermediate stage. By doing the vocabulary test to Chinese major sophomores in Chiang Rai Mae Fah Luang University, get the condition of intermediate Chinese learners’ vocabulary. Through the vocabulary ability test, examine the students’ vocabulary understanding and using capacity. Studying on the vocabulary acquisition’s metacognitive strategy to find out more appropriate and better vocabulary learning strategies for students. In addition, the paper also proposes some suggestions for teaching materials writing and vocabulary classroom teaching by means of individual interview with the teachers and students. The author hopes that the research results can serve the Chinese classroom, and effectively promote the improvement in the Thai Chinese vocabulary teaching effectiveness.
