The Chinese“吃”and the Korean"(?)"are comparatively commonly used words in each country. Therefore, the comparative study of the linguistic similarities and common features of the Chinese“吃”and the Korean "(?)"can bring understanding and serve as a big help.This article is divided into5parts. The first serving as an introduction, The second is looking at the basic meanings of the words "吃"and "(?)"as shown in a dictionary, comparing the derivation and characteristics of the two words. The third part is looking at the characteristics of grammar structure. The fourth part is comparing conceptual metaphor in the two words from an intellectual stand point. The last part is a conclusion.Through comparative investigation we received the results as written below.Firstly, from a linguistic stand point, the Chinese "吃" and the Korean "(?)" are basically the same“吃”having21meanings and "(?)" having20meanings. The two words carry more similarities than differences. There are common causes for these similarities in the development of the language of two countries, i.e both being derived from one cognitive system proximity, sharing ethnic characteristics, cultural background.Secondly the grammatical structure from the viewpoint of the Chinese“吃”and the Korean "(?)" is usually a "V+N"(Verb+Noun) format. The“吃”and the Korean "(?)"aree both "binomial verbs". There is choice restriction on the nouns on either side of these words. The Korean "(?)" can be combined with a noun as the object.Thirdly, from the cognitive perspective, the meanings of the Chinese“吃”and the Korean "(?)" classified with conceptual metaphor as a theoretical basis. The Chinese "吃" carries a total of10conceptual metaphors while the Korean "(?)"carries8.The Chinese“吃”and the Korean "(?)" both have the concept of "Coming into the body from the outside". With this concept as a basis, through eating, diverse and abstract meanings are presented.
