An Exploration Of He Lin’s Axiology

He Lin, the famous Chinese modern philosopher, as well as the expert ofwestern philosophy and the translator, founded the theory of New Idealism.Histhoughts have changed dramatically from a modern Confucian of Idealism into aMarxist since1949. And the point of the paper was centered on the period ofbuilding and improvement for the system of New Idealism before1949.As an outstanding Chinese modern philosopher as well as the expert of westernphilosophy, he made a great contribution for the development of Chinese philosophy.Based on the value of the traditional Confucianism, his axiology took theConfucianism thought as the subject, absorbed and fused the western axiologythoughts to solve the practical problems in society. Similar with theNeo-Confucianism of Song and Ming dynasties, He Lin took the Tao, that is theLi as the origin of value. And the difference from that Neo-Confucianism was thathe endowed the Tao with the meaning of value ontologization about the True, theGood and the Beautiful besides the law and the origin of ontology. He integratedthe Tao, the Xin and the Culture into his featured system of axiology by thedistinction of philosophy style and material from Aristotle. He concluded that, Taois the idea of value, Xin is the experience of value and Culture is the productionof value. From the aspect of body and function, Tao is the pure body, which is thepure style, while Culture is pure function, which is the pure material. And as theidea of value, the content of Tao should go through the Xin to be shaped with thevalue matter of culture. As a result, Xin is the body of culture while the culture isthe function of the Xin. On the other side, following the idea of value amount ofthe different culture parts, the Culture differentiates into three parts, that is, theTrue, the Good and the Beautiful. And according to the same rule, the inner ofeach three parts can be divided into multi-layers. With the idea of body and function,the value system of He Lin included diversity culture field such as the art, the science,the philosophy, the morality and the religion. Meanwhile, adapting to the needs of the modernization development, He Lin brought up that we should not ignorethe value of utility apart from the pure culture value of the True, the Goodand the Beautiful.It can be well known the axiology thought of He Lin by the thesis. Heincorporated the present culture achievements at all times and in all over theworld with his gracious attitude. It also benefits from that for us, when we handlethe relationship between the traditional ethic and culture and modernization, aswell as building modern the Socialist Core Value System in China.
