The Comparison And Analysis Of The Words’ Meanings Between Taiwan And Mainland

Taiwan’s Chinese and mainland mandarin have the same root homology. Just becauseTaiwan and mainland separate from each other so long, and with different external andinternal factors’ influence, there are many differences between the two sides’ words,especially the words’ meanings. But with mainland carrying out the policy of reformation andopening and Taiwan’s a string of slack policies to mainland emerging, folk and high officialcommunication between the two sides is becoming more and more frequently. The words ofthe two sides are permeating and fusing each other’s because the words can reflect thesociety’s changes and development the most timely. Words which their meanings have somedifferences between the two sides are developing towards the same direction or absorbingmutually. The differences are reducing step by step and the communication between two sidesis getting smoother and smoother. This paper tries to use modern Chinese and westernlinguistics theory as guidance; adopt "across the community study" and "comparative study"methods. With the statistics theory、the formalized means、specific description of languagefacts and the dictionary about the modern Chinese language often used by Taiwan andmainland as corpus, this paper tries to contrast、generalize and describe the different meaningsof the words between Taiwan and mainland coming from the words which have manymeanings collected by the dictionary about the modern Chinese language often used byTaiwan and mainland. According to these, we hope to summarize the models of differentmeanings between Taiwan and mainland’s words. At the same time, we can also analyze thereasons leading to the differences between the two sides’ words’ meanings and investigate thefusion conditions of the different meanings between Taiwan and mainland. Hope this papercan give some beneficial references about the research of the differences between two sides’words. Also hope can tell people how to face and deal with these differences.
