Fan painting is a common but special one in our traditional Chinese paintings.In recentyears, its unique artistic value causes the widespread attention and research of scholars. Therise and fall of any painting is not an accidental phenomenon. It is not only the aestheticproduct, but also reflects the development laws of the painting itself.In Mid Ming DynastyWu painters are the first to take up our country fan painting. They are mainly regionalscholars, and also represent the traditional and contemporary aesthetic taste. As a type ofpainting, fan painting needs to meet the scholars’ entertainment and appreciation.After themid-Ming Dynasty, Confucian scholars ’ life value orientation and spiritual beliefs changedthe evaluation mode which regarded the ethical culture as its core.It contributed to thedeep-seated change which was featured for inspiration and entertainment. Thus, Chinese fanpainting and calligraphy development also obtained a historic opportunity. From the threeaspects of the fan painting collection, a type craft carving and material culture metaphorawareness, we can find the Wu painters appreciating fan painting for fun with greatenthusiasm. This passion is from mid Ming Dynasty Wu painters’ aesthetic evolution and thedevelopment of the entertainment function of aesthetics. Therefore, this article selects therise of the fan painting, the four styles of Wu Painting’s aesthetic transformation,and theinfluence of fan painting on contemporary new literati painting as the object of study. Fromthe analysis of the social, cultural factors and aesthetic changes of the fan painting,the paperaims to further explore the culture connotation, and to provide the historical basis andthinking for the present painting style of study and development.This paper includes the two following clues: The first clue is about thebeginning,exploring and rising of our traditional Chinese fan painting. Based on the literaturedata and real data statistics, the paper aims to comb the developmentof Chinese fan paintingand figure out its rising time. In second, with the aid of individual cases, the paper also aimsto specifically analyse the association between the aesthetic mentality of creators,theaesthetic evolution and construction of Chinese fan painting,and its development and trendunder the influence of contemporary painting.
