The French artist Millet of19th century is the important representive of realistic painting style. The features of the times and realistic significance reflects obviously the historical trace of western art development of that time and makes great contributions to whole world’s human art development after it, and exercises indispensable impact on development of today’s world art. The realistic thoughts and ideas born by Millet’s painting art have also important influence on the art development in the early periods of China’s reforming and opening. The "scar art" in the late1970s and early1980s is the local realistic painting art produced by excellent artists at home in the early period of opening to the world, which is influenced and inspired by such western maestros as Miller.The realistic thoughts and ideas transmitted by Millet painting arts has a important link between the preceding and the following in human historical trend of change and development. They derives from the new classicism and romanticism of previous periods, develops vigorously from the social change in the historical period of industrial revolution and strong appeal of people to the real life and causes quickly the spreading and development of the realistic trend of thought of Dutch, British, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Russia and the United States and other countries and regions. The impressionism and post-impressionism directly derived from the realistic style advocated by realism in the history of art have an indirect influence on the formation and development of thoughts like symbolism, surrealism. That is, realism is the total source of the western modern art ideas and different forms of schools.In the later scholars’deep researches on artistic development and humanism, they gradually realize the value of Millet’s artistic creative thoughts. Millet implanted the pursuit and thinking of deep humanistic spirit into his life experiences and thought comprehensions, including a variety of different professional laborers in his youth growth and the beginning of the pursuit of art, and seriously described it in his artistic creative works. This means reflects self-concern, which is universal for human beings, the demands for the most basic survival dignity, the human concern of constant pursuit and the struggle in our fate, even more of a process of the spirit Grinding of art’s "cognitive self" as a phenomenon and carrier of human wisdom and the humanistic spirit in human historical development and confirmation and shaping of sublimated spiritual thoughts.
