Among the central plain writers, many of whom coming from Henan province have created a large number of outstanding works that have Henan local feature and show the spirit and characteristics of Henan people. The "amphibious" life experience, namely urban and rural life, makes Liu Zhenyun become the most special one among the Henan writers. In the poor childhood, Liu yearned a lot for urban life. Once living in city, he was nostalgic for the previous rural life. Then he struggled between urban and rural life. Finally, he rejected both kinds of life. Though materially poor rural life, power-dominated official life, intricate family life and technology-dominated urban life are vividly described in his large-scoped works, Liu Zhenyun, as a famous writer with apocalyptic feeling, his profound thinking for people’s existence is always reflected in all his works. The reasons for his ideology are complicated. The rural and urban life experience, western existentialism, traditional Chinese doctrines of Zhuangzi, and contemporary people’s anxiety for existence, all of which have an effect on Liu’s formation of existence ideology. This text, based on the analysis of characters in Liu’s novels and his existence idealism, is the most convincing proof for Liu’s ideology. From this text, we can understand the connotation of Liu’s existence idealism, namely poverty’s test for humanity, the alination of humanity under the influence of power-dominated society, examination for history and moral degeneration under the influence of technology. He described the real life of different people in different societies in his works and disclosed people’s contradiction and predicament in the world. His existence idealism has a realistic significance for guiding people to get rid of living predicament.
