Research On Museum’s Public Environmental Signs Design

With the development of social economy, people pay more attention to cultural undertakings. It also promoted the museum’s function change. To the public museum is no longer the institution which possesses the function of research, education and collection, but the place where reposed people’s desire and aspiration for mental life. So modern museum need to introduce the new idea continuously for external image and services. Unique museum image recognition, rational guiding sign, and humanized itinerary guiding makes important practical significance on promoted museum image, completed museum services, and enhanced the museum public influence.Base on literature at home and abroad and actual survey, this paper launched research around museum environmental signs system. Take the museum’s function and external image into consideration, environmental signs system should divided into guiding signs system and visual identity system. It also discussed the constitutes of the guiding signs which include Information Identity, instruction guide logo and the public service marks. Proceeding from the example of many museums at home and abroad, this paper probes visual identity system of basic and applied parts. Take the Yunnan museum of minority nationalities for example, the visitors composition in museums are analyzed. Considering visual identity and guiding signs to analyze the current situation of the environmental signs system of ethnological museum, and summarize the characteristics and problems in museum environmental signs system. Proceeding from the design elements of environmental signs design, this paper discussed some related elements about design and install on environmental signs system. To study at views of the interrelations between environmental signs system, environment and people, the Influence of environmental signs system from the factors of layout design, materials technology, and location are analyzed.Based on the present situation of the museum of minority nationalities system and the relevant factors of environmental signs system, this paper obtained several design principles that need for the design of museum environmental signs system, which are paying attention to the logo’s functionality in guiding signs, standardization design, and from the regional culture of museum worked out guiding signs that are beauty and individuality. In visual identity aspect, observed the fundamental principles of VI system and combined national characteristics and meet modern aesthetic demand. Use above design principles to the design of identification system of the Yunnan museum of minority nationalities can gain experience from practice. Build museum’s environmental signs system and unity of the museum’s overall image have important significance to improve the museum’s service face and public effect.
