It has been400years since dulcimer was transported from Persia into China in the Ming Dynasty as an exotic instrument. Its instrument construction, sound quality, playing techniques and music productions have been improved after that and it has formed its own system by inheriting, absorbing and learning from other national arts. It gradually formed four styles, that is, Guangdong dulcimer, Jiangnansizhu dulcimer, Sichuan, Northeast dulcimer. Each style has its own music and performance characteristics, traditional works and representative musicians, which enriched playing techniques and performance apporaches. Compared to other styles, the Northeast dulcimer has neither a clear musical genres or music background, nor relatively stable performance groups. It has become an independent and direct art form. So learning from other arts and creations play a leading and decisive role in the formation of its playing style. This paper analyzes the performance skills and characteristics of ’lun’,’compress’ and ’fibrillation’ of Northeast Dulcimer by considering the work of’Fish man’. It deepens understanding and academic study of Northeast Dulcimer.
