Cheng Gongliang And His Music:"Caoman" On The Guqin Zither

This thesis takes Gong-liang, Cheng, a master who is still active in Qin field, as research subject. Based on the oral records and the field observation in the past three years, I attempt to trail the Qin player’s "body experience", and analyze his musical style by the behavior of "caoman".I will also explore the features and cultures of the time which is reflected by the forming process of such style, and look into his individual mentality, the mentoring relationship, as well as his life experience. On the other hand, by analyzing Mr. Cheng’s "caoman ", I will further illustrate how he understand and continue the traditional Qin music by means of the "body experience", then discuss how he perceives the spirit of Qin music and keeps his faith towards the music.
