Prelude, one of the ancient genres, which has passed through the development and evolution of history, finally separated itself from "introduction" as subordination during the Romantic Period; and became a completely independent musical genre, the Character piece of the Romantic music. This kind of music was established, developed and extended by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin and Faure. Especially due to the contribution of Chopin, he succeeded in making preludes as an independent genre of piano music, and created the Piano Divertimento with pure musicality in the history of music. These four composers, who inherited and developed from each other, were still holding the leading positions and unique styles. This article will focus on the analysis of the ontology of Piano Prelude in Romantic Period; and implement the research and discussion of the artistic features and performance technology and technique, as well as the didactics in their pieces from different angles.In this paper, the research is mainly carried out using literature investigation, historical research, and concept and text analysis. By analyzing and summarizing the musical structure, harmony, melody and texture, the music performance and teaching methodology are revealed. From the aspects of teaching and research, some thoughts and suggestions have been proposed to achieve a more comprehensive attention in the Prelude domain. From which two points are of great importance, one is the technique application, while the other is musical utilization and piece pairing.
