As an emotional art form of expression, tragedy has been one of the elements for creation of artists. Using music to depict the tragedy is a distinctive writing style in music development history.Sergei. Vasilyevich. Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) is a Russian Romantic composer, pianist and conductor. He grew up in a political situation of unrest war. His rugged life and negative attitudes made his many works full of pessimistic emotion, so as to inspire people yearning for a better life with tragic power inside.Frederic. Francois. Chopin (1810-1849) is a great Polish musician, composer and pianist. After the fall of Warsaw, Chopin’s mood was strongly spiritual stimulated, making his works filled with strong patriotic feelings and grief.Rachmaninoff and Chopin’s turbulent times and rough experience made them works filled with’Tragedy’. But their tragic manifestations are different because of distinctive musical expressions, writing styles and personalities.This study includes 5 chapters based on’Tragedy’in Rachmaninoff and Chopin’s works.The first chapter is about the development process of’Tragedy’. An introduction.about theory of’Tragedy’and its history will be given. The development of’Tragedy’in all art creation will be depicted also.The second chapter is for Rachmaninoffs’Tragedy’creative process, which includes Rachmaninoff s life, introduction of piano works, the stages and reasons of development of ’Tragedy’.The third chapter is related to Chopin’s’Tragedy’creative process, which is about to Chopin’s life, introduction of piano works, the social factors, psychological factors and personal circumstances that reflects’Tragedy’.The forth chapter is a analysis to differences and similarities about’Tragedy’in Rachmaninoff and Chopin’s works according to concrete works, historical background and different musical genres.The last chapter is a conclusion about rich emotion and expressions in’Tragedy’and the significance that correctly handle the’Tragedy’in music.
