The research aims to probe a teaching model for the computer-based writing and interactive evaluation (CWIE hereafter). Under the theoretical guidance of Constructivism, process writing approach, and collaborative learning theory, the author created the CWIE, a software program, as a platform for college English writing training. An empirical research is employed with the intention to test the hypothesis that using the CWIE model is more efficient in provoking students’awareness of autonomous learning and promoting improvement in students’writing competence than using the traditional individual writing and teacher-to-students evaluation model. The research explores:1) Have the students made greater progress in writing achievements, when they are trained in the CWIE model?2) What’s students’attitude towards the CWIE model?3) How do the students perform in the CWIE model? An experiment was conducted to prove the feasibility of the CWIE model and find out the possible problems in its application. Learners’progress in writing achievements was measured by pretest and posttest; their opinions on the CWIE model were investigated by a questionnaire and their learning behavior was observed by the researcher. Learners’opinions on the advantages of CWIE and their suggestions on its improvement were surveyed by an interview. The results show that the CWIE model significantly provokes students’awareness of autonomous learning and improve students’writing competence. A positive attitude towards the CWIE model is shown by the students involved. It is also discovered that students and teachers play new roles in the CWIE model. Therefore, it can be proved that the CWIE model is effective in College English writing training. The significance of this experiment is double-fold. In theory, the research does not only explore the advantages and shortcomings of the CWIE model, but also proves the pedagogical enlightenments and limitations it has on current English wiring training. In practice, the research helps to put forward a model for effective College English writing training and promotes learning autonomy awareness of students. In this research, the advantages of CWIE model in English writing training are summarized as well as some concerns in implementing this approach, and problems to be solved are also pointed out. It provides experience for teachers of College English writing with a computer-based writing and interactive evaluation model and reference for other researchers.
