Located in eastern Hunan, Anren county borders upon Chaling county on the east,Yanling county on the southeast. The county is bounded on the west by bounded onthe south by Zixing, Yongxing and Leiyang and has a common border with Hengnan,Hengdong and Youxian on the north. Its special geographical position determinesthe high complexity of the Anren local dialect. However, this local dialect has beenlong marginalized and ignored by the academia. The existing literatures about thestudy of Anren local dialect are rather limited. Works specialized in this local dialectare even more scarce. Aside from being recorded in the county annals, Anren localdialect appears in the works on general survey and subarea of local dialects. In viewof this situation, based on some field surveys, the author centers her description onthe phonetic system of Chengguan dialect, the most authentic representative of theAnren local dialect. Meanwhile, the author compares the internal discrepancies of thislocal dialect. Through the comparative studies on Anren local dialect, Changshadialect and Nanchang dialect, the dissertation makes further revelation about thephonetic features of Anren local dialect and probes into its adscription.The main body of this dissertation falls into seven parts:The introductory section briefly introduce the geography, history, population andlanguage of Anren county. It also presents the research actualities about Anren localdialect and the keystones and significance of this research.The second part focuses on a thorough description of the Chengguan dialect inAnren county with special attentions to its consonants, vowels, tone systems andcollocations of consonants and vowels.The phonological features of Chengguan dialect including the characters ofconsonants, vowels and tones are analyzed in the third section.The fourth part of this paper further reveals the phonetic features of Anren localdialect through comparing its internal discrepancies. Heshi dialect and Xindu dialectare compared with Anren local dialect in this part.In the fifth section,Anren local dialect is compared with Changsha and Nanchangdialects in terms of differences and similarities of consonants, vowels and tones tofind out the degrees of affinity between Anren dialect, Hunan dialects and Jiangxidialects The conclusion part focuses on analysing the adscription of Anren local dialect.Based on the above analysis, the author thinks Anren local dialect retains somephonetic characters of Jiangxi dialect. Meanwhile, it is strongly influenced by Hunandialects. To sum up, Anren local dialect is an independent dialect blending charactersof Hunan dialects and Jiangxi dialects.Appendix: Alphabet&Sound Table of Anren Local Dialect...
