The thesis focuses on the Lingling dialects and the local dialects of Lanjiaoshan town known as "island of dialects" because it is surrounded by Lingling dialects. The author attempts to find the law that Lingling dialects has impressed on Lanjiaoshan local dialects based on systematically analyzing and researching phonetic materials that the author has collected in her field work, and concludes that the Lanjiaoshan local dialects has began to decay and shows some characteristics of endanger due to its contact with Lingling dialects and has become an endangered dialects.The author argues that during its long contact with Lingling dialects, Lanjiaoshan local dialects has been eroded seriously and a confused phonetic system has emerged which contains its own phonetic forms as well as language forms of Lingling dialects that now holds a dominant position. Such an erosion is deadly and would result in the recession of the dialects and shift-use of language. This thesis intends to provide concrete examples of dialects recession even extinguish caused by long inter-contact and influence with other dialects.The thesis consists of six chapters besides an introduction and a conclusion. Chapter two focuses on discussing the phonetic characteristics of Lingling and Lanjiaoshan dialects and makes a detailed description of representatives of the two dialects, Changtangjiao and Beitang, Lengshuitan town official dialects. In chapter three, the author discusses some words that have same pronunciations both in Lingling dialects and Lanjiaoshan dialects. Chapter four, the author compares phonetics of Lanjiaoshan dialects with that of Lingling in consonants, vowels and tones and attempts to find the law of the influence, and then the author explores the contact recession of Lanjiaoshan dialects.
