A Study On Females Consciousness Of Lee Seonhee’s Novel

Li Seonhee is a modern female writer who is fledgling in1930s. The w riter uses diverse themes and minute descriptions as sujects to show the women’s lives of that period vividly. The writer created dozens of essa ys and novels before she went north over the border, which makes indelib le contribution. This paper, based on the social problems of that time, analyzes some main details concerning the heroine’s behavior of solving problems, and points out the female consciousness in patriarchal society.Above all, it analyzes the writer’s personal and social backgrounds of that time, which influenced the writer’s creation. As a modern female, the writer’s experiences and contradictions are naturally reflected in h er works.For deep understanding of Lee Seonhee’s work, it mainly divided the fe male consciousness into three parts in this paper. They are the conscio usness of female’s striving to get rid of dailly life, self-awareness of female victims, and love ethic consciousness of patriarchal society. In this paper, it focus on the changes of heroines’consciousness when the y are solving different problems in different situation of that period b y themselves, and takes specific works for analyzing different problems shown in the novels. First of all, the heroines in her novels who just aware self-consciousne ss, realize by themselves that they are fettered by patriarchy, but faci ng constraints, they can no longer upgrade to the self-mature stage. The writer wants to convey female’s sense of romantic and desire to escape by heroines in her novels.Second, Li Seonhee shows the self-awareness of female victims by criti cizing the social structure of that very period when females confused by their husbands having an affair and women who have jobs but can only be suppressed.Third, the writer points out the females’return of good wife and wise mother by describing contradiction between women’s self knowledge of pe rsuing rights, freedom and love and the maternity of being fored to res ponsible for the family and sacrifice. Futherly, it focus on the obstacl es of free love and contradictions between harem to show women’s love et hic consciousness in patriarchal society.In a word, it is vividly described in Lee Seonhee’s works that the wom en’s consciousness gradualy changes on the formation and structure of mo dern social order. It can be seen in the woks that the women’s lives in the early modern time are distorted from the descriptions of abandoned w omen, and modern women who were finally driven to concubines and the liv es of woking women who reduced to prostitudes at last.
