Abstract/Summary:
The essay is focused on the Doctor-patient Verbal Communication, especiallythe traditional Chinese medicine from the point of narratives, based on the theoreticalsystem of discourse analysis and illness narratives. These years have alreadywitnessed the domestic development and achievement of traditional approaches todiscourse analysis—from linguistic perspective, while abroad studies are conductedfrom medical perspective in virtue of discourse analysis by the medical staff. Therefore, the writer is firmly convinced that the perspective of discourse analysisshould be expanded. Consequently, the study of discourse analysis from the angle ofnarrative analysis fills that crucial void.Narratives offers a different approach to understanding individual’s experiencein medical interaction, and fosters empathy and understanding and provides usefulanalysis clues related to an illness. It can answer systematically what is worthwhilefor the information gathering and get closer to the subject’s psychological process inan appropriate context, which may enhance the understanding of an illness and itstreatment to both the doctor and the patient and broaden the practical application tomedical interaction of discourse analysis. Thus, integration of narrative-baseddimension is essential not only to linguistic development direction, but to humanity ofdiscourse analysis. The study explores medical interaction, especially to the interaction of theChinese traditional medicine, with the guide of narratives. Since previous researchwas mainly limited in Western Medical encounters, the study are expected to extendthe works on medical interaction of traditional Chinese medicine. The study tries topropose two distinct narrative analysis models on the basis of transfer andorganization to the collected medical interaction corpus, integrating the quantitativeand micro approaches:(1) Expert patient narrative-based medical interaction model,(2) Co-constructional narrative-based medical interaction model. The two models areapplied to analyze different patients’ discourse, taking the socio-cultural andpsychological context of doctors and patients into account, which provides a distinctperspective for discourse analysis.
