The early mural art inMogao Caves has become the most precious jewel of Dunhuang murals, with its lovely,straightforward crazy and strange characteristics.As the main art language of Chinese painting modeling,"line drawing" has stronggeneralization ability and artistic expression, which can creat all kinds of imagesthrough its succinct in. It is correspondingly mature for the line drawing among thepaintings on silk,in the Xihan dynasty.It shows not only the plastic and ideographicfunction, but also the aesthetic characteristics. Together with China’s calligraphy,"linedrawing" has gotten delicate ascension following the development ofcalligraphy,being one of the distinctive features of the traditional Chinese painting.Dunhuang mural had inherited and developed this tradition. This thesis, makes the studyof the line drawing of early Dunhuang murals as its main line, according to theauthor’s own artistic practice experience, just tries to deepen our understanding of"linear" features of the traditional Chinese painting, through analyzing characteristics,function and expression form of line drawing in early Dunhuang murals.And then,ithopes to provide some positive significance for the drawing creation nowadays.
