During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Huizhou local history chronicleshave been a huge amount, of which the compilation and the theory havebecome increasingly mature. Generally listed in the first part of the localhistory records, prefaces and notes on the use of the chronicles areconcentrated embodiment of writing contents, editing concept and systemmodel, which has important academic value.This article provides an overview of the writing characteristics, inputsources and the authors’ writing ideas of prefaces and notes on the use of thechronicles in the Ming and Qing Huizhou County annals, as well as thespecific discussion on the theory of Local Records. Some valuable academicinformation has been carding in detail, such as the inheritance anddevelopment of the Huizhou traditional academic origins, the local culturedata and information, specific description of the Local Records process, andbackground of chronicles compilation. Selecting the "Huizhou chronicles"during the Ming and Qing Dynasties as the case, this article explores theacademic value on these three aspects, which are writing content, stylespecifications and the authors’ social hierarchy. The prefaces and notes onthe use of the records are listed into a directory in the end of this article, aswell as the whole text and some representative prefaces of Huizhouchronicles.
