A Study On Ling Nan Late Qing Dynasty&Early Republic Of China Liang Jipei’s Novels

Liang Jipei is a novelist of Ling Nan, who lived in Late Qing Dynasty&EarlyRepublic of China. He travelled to Kuala Lumpur when he was young. After he returnedhome, he cooperated with his friends Pan Xiahun, Chen Yinglv and Zeng Shaogu tofound the Novel Associations. He was active in Guangdong literary world during Xin HaiRevolution period. After Xin Hai Revolution, he lived as a recluse and wrote books. Inhis old age, he was poor and later died of sickness. This article does some research aboutLiang Ji pei’s novels in order of composition time. These novels include Stories of LiuHuadong, Cen Du Zheng Xi, Jin Yan Weiren Lin Zexu, Qi Zai Fa Hua Meng, History ofZhao Sheng, Guangdong Hei Mu Da Guan, Yuedong Xin Liaozhai Chuji, Yuedong XinLiaozhai Erji. In Late Qing Dynasty, Liang Ji pei used novel as a weapon to improve thesociety. During the Xin Hai Revolution, he saw the revolution as a spectator, he kept aneutral attitude to the revolution in his novel. After the Republic of China was established,he saw novels as the carrier of emotion and will. In his novels, Cen Chunxuan is a bravebureaucrat,Su Jingzhu is a money-oriented businessman, and Zhao Sheng is arevolutionary with good character and talent but does not appreciate by the Qinggovernment. Liang Jipei always maintains a simple moral criticism in his novels, not onlyexposes the decadent society macroscopically, but also microcosmically reveals the fallenfamily ethics. His novels reflects some social problems, such as bandits, forbid gambling,and relieve people in floods, these make his novels with distinct characteristics of thetimes. Liang Jipei makes Yue Dong celebrities, Yue Dong antiquities and Yue Dongcustoms as the main object in his novels, which makes his novels contain stronggeographical features. On one hand, the contributions of Liang Jipei and his novels inLing Nan literature history are positive, on the other hand,the lack of artistry in his novelsis obvious.
