Hybridity is not strange for us because lots of researches on the issues of it havebeen done by scholars. However, these researches mainly focus on the literarytranslation, and the hybridity phenomena of non-literary translation haven’t receivedthe attention they deserve.This thesis mixes the hybridity phenomena with the Chinese translated texts ofEST lectures and finds a new path to touch the hybridity phenomena in Chinesetranslation of EST lectures. It mainly analyzes the three questions: Why the hybridityphenomena exhibit themselves in E-C translations of EST lectures? What are thedifferences between hybridity phenomena in EST Chinese translation and those inliterary translation? What are the reasons for these differences?The author gives a relatively complete description of hybridity phenomenawhich are both involved in the source texts and translated texts. In the former, it refersto the multilingual phenomena while in the latter, the hybridity phenomena exhibitthemselves at both level of culture and linguistic expressions. The hybridityphenomena at the level of linguistic expressions lie in the heterogeneity of impropercollocations and the syntax with English properties. That breaks the limitation of thedescription which express that mix of domestication and foreignization translationstrategy is hybridity.Then, the author analyzes the reasons for the existence of hybridity phenomenaof source texts and at every level of target texts of EST lectures. In source texts,aiming at purchasing the convenience, the authors of EST lectures keep the brief Latinwords which are mixed with English and produce the multilingual phenomena. Intarget texts, both macro-aspect of the times background and micro-aspect of theelements about readers bring about dissimilar translation strategies by translatorswhich bring the hybridity phenomena at cultural level into being. The heterogeneouselements of collocations result from the “word-by-word” translation method which iscaused by the translator’s poor ability of using target language. The different translation strategies of literal translation and free translation consciously chosen bytranslators in translating the traditional English syntax lead to the hybridity of syntax.Meanwhile, unconscious restriction to the translators from source and targetlanguages exert influences on the choices of the strategies which also result in thehybridity phenomena of syntax. The objectivity of ST lectures causes the highfrequent passive voices sentences, while the previous ST translators’ methods oftranslating passive voices sentences spark off the high hybrid rate of syntax in theChinese ST translated texts.After exemplifying the hybridity phenomena involved in literary translation, theauthor finds two points of differences between hybridity phenomena in literarytranslation and those in EST translation, namely, hybridity forms and hybridity extent.The former means there are hybridity phenomena exhibit themselves at level ofliterature in the target texts of literary translation,namely the hybridity phenomenaresulting from differing ways of narration in both source texts and target texts ofliterary translation. The hybridity extent of literary translation mainly protrudes in themultilingual phenomena in source texts and at culture level in the target texts.Last but not least, the author finds out the reasons for these differences from theaspects of definitions of ST and literature, literariness and scientificalness as well asthe differing linguistic properties of two writing styles. The literariness from thedefinition of “literature” plays an important role in creating the third hybridity formsand the multilingual elements in source texts. Both linguistic properties of literaturelectures and the literariness exert influence on the high frequent existence of cultureterms which result in more hybridity phenomena at level of culture in the translatedtexts. While the scientificalness and lingual characteristics of EST lectures producethe opposite effect.
