Contemporary Chinese Watercolor Phenomenon

The development of the watercolor in China can be represented by a series of phenomena. It has been passed for some hundreds of years since Giuseppe Castiglione, an Italian Boanerges time showed us the watercolor art. During this long time, the development of watercolor in China isn't as favorable as it did in western countries. It hasn't been noticed by most painters until recently. while now , the watercolor developed rapidly in China. It is more and more be notice by people by a series of exhibitions and competitions. Thus, more and more watercolor painters appeared, so did watercolor publications.In May 1993, Chinese Artists' Association established Watercolor Art committee. As a special kind of art, watercolor was accepted by the 9th National Art Exhibition in 1999. Watercolor was beginning in its flourishing time. As we pay our attention to its flourishing time, we should also pay attention to the phenomena with it. As truth, we can always notice problems by its phenomena, we must make clear of the essence by its phenomena so that we can solve the problems. In this thesis, I'd like to analyse the reasons of the phenomena of Chinese contemporary watercolor art. Put emphasis on the important signification of development of watercolor by the National Art Exhibition as well as the key problem of how to produce excellent watercolor works.
