“Theme” was formally proposed in1987. After20years of creative practice, themainstream film is most clearly reflects the culture of copying and narrative authority,as one of the mainstream Chinese films which can not be ignored. The thesis selectedthe mainstream films since the1990s for the study is based on the following threereasons:1.The film industry impacts on the theme of the film;2.The audiences’psychological and aesthetic changes in the way;3.The film creators’ ideas have beenchanged. Through the collection of relevant data, the writer found that there has been alarge number of the main then audience familiar with the award-winning works, such as"Jiao Yulu","Ren Changxia","My Long March","Founding of the Republic" and so on.However, the research on the mainstream film is lagging behind, and the scholars’ studymainly focused on the theme of the mainstream film、 interpretation of the concept andcontent、creative and research work and the transformation of research. Although theyhave achieved some results by these studies, but also there be lack of systematicresearch.Since the1990s, the mainstream film presents a wide range of creative trend, the thesisseeks the mainstream film since1990, described on the basis of theoreticalgeneralization of the phenomenon. The research methods of the thesis are the filmnarrative and film aesthetics theories.The thesis is divided into three chapters. In the review of the summary, it analyzes theconcept, development and classification of the mainstream films. In chapter one, itanalyzes the narrative mode of the real, stylized and everyday of the three aspects of thetheme of the film’s narrative mode pluralistic; in chapter two, it analyzes the charactersof typification and atypical, secularization and the hero and profiling of three aspects ofmainstream films characters tend to diverse; in chapter three, it analyzes the existingforms of commercial, technical, performance techniques, visual effects spectacle of thethree aspects of the mainstream film tends to diverse art forms. Finally, the writer madea few suggestions of the mainstream film based on the theme of the film towards thecreation of a wide range of research.In short, the overall development trend of world culture, the mainstream filmsdriven by China since the1990s changed the traditional theme with a simple narrativeplot highlights the value of the tall theme of the narrative mode, the characters beforethe image-building is no longer a single video, artistic expression means richer bold. Asa unique type of film, she managed to maintain the function of the carrier state ideology,and gradually with the commercial, market-oriented property, became the distinctivevisual character of the film.
