Mahamaudgalynyana Drama was regarded as “the living fossil of ChineseTheater”. It refers to the drama which protagonist is Mahamaudgalynyana, a characterof Indian Buddhist legends, and which main content of his rescue mother.The story originates in “The Buddha Speaks: The Ullambana Sutra” with a thinplot. Due to the main theme was filial to parents who were welcomed by Chinesepeople, it was developed sufficiently. The story was fixed in Tang Dynasty andincrease developed in Ming and Qing Dynasty.Based on this, the image of Mahamaudgalynyana’s mother was changedpersistently.
