Gustav Mahler（1860—1911），famous composer and cantor of Austria，is one ofthe most important representatives of the late romantic music of the late nineteenth andearly twentieth century,for which he has played an important role in prompting itsdevelopment. Mahler’s creation mainly concentrates on two realms:art songs andsymphonys. The creation of the art songs occupys a significant position among all themusical compositions of him. All together he composes more than forty songs includingthree liedereyclus.In the respects of applying the harmony techniques，he inherits theart accomplishment of composers such as Wagner and Richard-Straus and at the same timehe forms his own personalised art characteristics of harmony techniques application aswell as unique art styles by continuous innovation.Young Magic Horn, explored in this dissertation is one of the three threeliedereyclus consisting of twelve independent songs, which is the source of symphony andsong subjects in all his creation life.This dissertation will conduct an exploration about thecharacteristics of the application of harmony techniques in the music accompaniment byanalysing the harmony techniques in the twelve songs,from the respects of harmonymaterials,harmony applying techniques, the characteristics of the multiple adjustablerelationship and the operation of unessential notes, which aims at revealing the artexpression effects of harmony in this liedereyclus.Music accompaniment and vocalitycompose an organic integrity in their respective ways and are of the same importance.Only by the perfect unification of both of them, can the due vitality of the musics be setoff by the accompaniment.
