The first tragedy is a form of stage performance, belonging to the theater. Earliertragedy has relationship with myth and hero. When novel rise and gradually occupied theliterary dominant position, the drama is on the wane, but the literary works with tragicnature are still very popular. Before the19th century like “Doll family”, tragedy is thetragedy of "God" as a drama, story and character set to catch the relationship and themyth or the nobility. After the rise of realism in the nineteenth century, writers concernedabout the lives of ordinary people. Whether it is drama, tragedy or other form ofliterature with the tragic nature of the work, they turned their attention to public life, sothe tragedy of the little people become the mainstream after the19th century.Ye Zhaoyan and John Updike can be said as the record of the life of the times, theircreation is not confined to a single aspect of love or affection. They focus on the entiresocial life down at a certain historical background to show the state of people’s lives andmental state. Their work can be seen from the wedding until the end of life a wholesection of life’s ups and downs. Either with the fate of the nature of Tragedy, or change inmental state caused by the moral degeneration, Ye Zhaoyan and Updike are keenlyobserved the complex relationships between society, families and individuals, and theresulting tragedy is a beauty, this beauty is not only a unique tragedy.In creative techniques and writing methods, Ye Zhaoyan and Updike have publiclyexpressed their creativity by Hemingway, Ernest Hemingway "iceberg" type of writingstyle and brushwork "less talk" in their work has the apparent refraction at the same time,they can serve as personal style, have a strong personality.Ye Zhaoyan and Updike’s work with the tragedy of the same and different sexual.Final before the tragedy, the individual, family, social play their respective roles, which iscommon in their creation. However, John Updike on the theme of the religious but in YeZhaoyan works cannot be found, and John Updike’s work is full of a large number ofreligious paragraphs, followed in dealing with the female image, they also show theirrespective different characteristics.
