Comedy is one of the important areas of Western aesthetics. In China, the comedyappeared as an aesthetic category and the form of theoretical terms in the early twentiethcentury. Opium War onwards, restrained style of the Chinese social, political, economic,and cultural broken by the gunboats of the Western powers. Under the unprecedentedsocial crisis and a strong culture shock, the Chinese made the difficult national salvationand self-redemption. Go hand in hand with this is an unprecedented exchange of Chineseand Western ideology and culture. Thus, the western comedy and comedy theory met thetraditional Chinese culture and classical comedy in such a special historical background.Chinese ancient tradition of comedy sense entered into a new theoretical stage, and thecomedy works of art were also prosperous. Bergson was an important Western estheticianduring the process of development of comedy theory in China.This paper is divided into five parts:1) Introduction;2) Bergson’s comedy theorypoint of view;3) The context of Bergson’s comedy theory acceptance in China;4) Thecontribution of Bergson’s comedy theory in China;5) The new revelation of Bergson’scomedy theory.The introduction describes the purpose and significance of this thesis, and illustratesthe topics of research in the stage of the domestic status quo, determines the value ofscientific research and innovation of this paper.The first chapter starts from the ontology, and then teases out the way how Bergsonconnected rationality with Intuitionism and ontology. Then discuss the formation of themain ideas of Bergson comedy theory.The second chapter analyzes the social and ideological background and translationof Bergson comedy theory acceptance, review status, specifically from both sides of theideological context and theoretical context.The Chapter3analyzes the impact of Bergson’s literary critic, playwright, and thesystematic and theoretical contribution to the development of Chinese comedy theory.Then analyze the causes of the differences.The fourth chapter analyzes the decline reasons and digs the significance of Bergson comedy theory at the present.
