This paper studied the foreign policy of the British during the Anglo-Boer War.Beforeand after the outbreak of the Anglo-Boer War,the Britain was in the external and internalsituation.How to get rid of the diplomatic dilemma and win the war was the British diplomacyfirst problem to be solved.To achieve this purpose,the Britain chose Portugal and Germany asa diplomatic breakthrough.By doing the work of the two countries and enlisting theirneutrality,the Britain achieved the purpose of winning the war. In practice,the Britain adopteddifferent policies towards Portugal and Germany.Towards Portugal, the Britain had adoptedthe drawing policy and the hardline policy.The concessions policy of the Britain towardsGermany is very effective.It prevented the formation of “the anti-Britain alliance”of theEuropean continent,and thus laid the foundation to secure the victory of the Anglo-Boer Warfor the Britain.This paper discussed from four aspects.The paper analyzed the foreign policy of the Britain to South Africa before the outbreakof the Anglo-Boer War.The first described the Liberal and british policy in South Africa;Thesecond described the foreign policy of the Brtish Conservative cabinet with the boer.The paper indepth studied the competition for the Delagoa Bay of the Britain and theGermany. The Delagoa Bay of the Portugal had an extremely important strategic position.Thesigning of the Anglo-German Agreement and the Britain failed to achieve the strategicblockade the Delagoa Bay,weakened the hegemony of the Britain in South Africa.The paper also researched the Anglo-Portugal negotiations on the both sides andanalyzed the British diplomacy from the win to a tough towards the Portugal.At the last,the paper studied the formation of anti-British alliance of Russian,France andGermany jointed,and analyzed the concession policy of the Britain to Germany in Samoadisputes and mail boat events.The Anglo-Boer War was one of the major wars of the capitalist powers competing forthe world hegemony and also was one of landmark events in the formation of monopolycapitalism and imperialism.In the modern world history, the Anglo-Boer War occupied a very important position. Because it was a watershed in the history of the development of theBritish Empire,and it was an extremely important war of studying the diplomatic developmenthistory of the British Empire. Therefore,researching the British diplomacy of this period hadimportant academic value and historical significance.
