John Maxwell Coetzee is the winner of Nobel Prize for Literature in2003and the winner of two Booker Prizes. Disgrace is one of his great works published in1999. The novel depicts a series of disgraceful events between the white and the black in post-apartheid South Africa. The whites lost their dominant position and became the victims of the blacks’ retaliation. To live harmoniously, both the white and the black have to make compromise. The present paper applies four postcolonial concepts to analyze the novel, they are Cronus, Subaltern, Mimicry and Hybridity. Cronus is a word from the novel, anyone who crosses the border has to pay for it. Subaltern is a word from Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak. In post-apartheid South Africa, the status of the once-dominant white is threatened and they become the Subalterns. Mimicry and Hybridity are from Homi K Bhabha. Through Mimicry and Hybridity, the blacks learned to survive and live in apartheid South Africa. Likewise, in new South Africa, the once-dominant white have to learn to live with the black through hybridity. For the whole world, only through hybridity and compromise can different countries and different cultures coexist peacefully and harmoniously.
