Both Dream of the Red Chamber and Flowers in the Mirror have each receivedphilosophical and artistic acclaim in China as well-known novels and classical long stories inthe Chinese classical literary history. Numerous images of beautiful and exceptional Ladiesare modeled in the two ancient Chinese classics. In the aspect of portraying the image ofLadies, Cao Xueqin used the technique of “Analogy of Flowers and the People” everywhere,while Li Ruzhen shaped one hundred images of “Flores”. So the Ladies were closely tied to“Flowers” in the two ancient Chinese classics. Basing on this understanding, the authormainly uses the investigative means of text comparison. According to the comparative studyof between “Flowers” which have been endowed the deep connotation by the traditionalculture in China and the Ladies in the two classics, the comparative study of between thenumerous Ladies in Dream of Red Chamber and one hundred images of “Flores” in Flowersin the Mirror, and the comparative study of “between Flowers and the People” in the twoclassics, the author systematically issue the relation between “Flowers and the People” andthen to approach the important roles of “Flowers” in the two classics. The author think“Flowers” in the two classics have the profound metaphor symbol connotation to thenumerous Ladies’ character and fate, and this connotation plays an important role in shapingthe image of characters and deepening the work subjects.This paper is mainly divided into four sections to issue:The first section analyzes the changing process of the technique,“Illusion of Flowers andthe People”, in the Chinese classical literary history in the macroscopic view to approach thedeep cultural connotation of “Flowers”, the image of “Flower Demon” and “Flores” in theChinese traditional culture, and then to prove that the technique of “Illusion of Flowers andthe People” has the tremendous influence upon characterization of the two classics. Both“Analogy of Flowers and the People” in Dream of the Red Chamber and the image of“Flores” in Flowers in the Mirror inherited systematically the technique of “Illusion ofFlowers and the People”.The second section proves “Flowers” have the profound metaphor connotation to thecharacters of the two classics in the microcosmic view. In both works, the beautifulpersonalities of numerous Ladies were set against the beautiful “Flowers” and the image of“Flores”. Consequently, this connotation plays an important role in characterization.The third section proves “Flowers” have the profound symbol connotation to thecharacters of the two classics in the microcosmic view, so the unfortunate lives of Ladies arecompared to the faded “Flowers”. So this connotation plays a tremendous role in extrudingthe work subjects.In a word, The author think that standing in the comparative research perspective of“Flowers and the People”, not only could we comprehend and hold the characters in bothworks roundly, but we could comprehend the tragedy topic of the two works profoundly,which is significance of greatest importance to makes us to evaluate and understand the characters and the subjects of both Dream of the Red Chamber and Flowers in the Mirrorsystematically and objectively.
