Italian composer Puccini was regarded as a decisive role in the circle of Italian Opera. In particular, the recitative and aria made by Puccini broke the boundary of these two types of opera, and combined the both techniques,"telling a story" and "showing the feeling ", which was to narrate during a song, and to sing during narration. As the plotline of the opera developed, the singer expressed the character’s feeling, which also retained the graceful Italian-style melody. The opera composed by Puccini contributed significance, and made an indelible influence in the entire process of opera development. This was the research on the concept of recitative and aria, and the relation of those two before the1800’s, as well as on the reformed features of the opera writing of the recitative and aira by Puccini, through the literature research, comparative analysis, empirical research, and etc. Besides, the famous aria "Mi chiamano Mimi" by Puccini was analyzed as an example, in order that the reader would better understand the relation between recitative and aria of Puccini style, and so as to explain the music and to portray the characters within the story properly.
