With the quick development in economy, China interacted with western countries more and more frequently; excellent English interpreters play a very important role in China. Many interpretation learners begin to explore different learning skills or learning strategies to help them to learn English interpretation, and improve their English interpretation proficiency. Many researchers in China have studied reading strategies, writing strategies, listening strategies deeply. But, at present the studies on English interpretation learning strategies are very rare. The thesis mainly studies the general situation of interpretation learners in English interpretation learning strategies use. The quantitative approach is adopted in this thesis to analyze the general situation of English interpretation learners in interpretation learning strategies use, and to investigate whether successful learners use more or different types of interpretation learning strategies than less successful interpretation learners or not in the process of learning interpretation. The subjects in this study are73juniors from the School of Foreign Languages in Hubei University, who are English majors and have studied English interpretation for36weeks. The writer of the thesis adopts a questionnaire of English interpretation learning strategies and an intermediate interpretation test as the instruments of the research. Through the descriptive analyses on the interpretation strategies questionnaire, the writer of this thesis would like to illustrate the general situation of interpretation learners in interpretation learning strategies use. Based on the interpretation marks in the test, the interpretation learners are divided into two groups, namely successful learners and less successful learners. Through the Sample T-Test on the questionnaire, the writer of the thesis investigates and analyzes the general situation and to investigate whether successful learners use more or different types of interpretation learning strategies than less successful interpretation learners or not in the process of learning interpretation. The writer of the thesis would like to solve the following questions in the research: (1) Which kind of interpretation learning strategies do the English interpretation learners use in the process of learning English interpretation?(2) Are there any differences between successful interpretation learners and less successful interpretation learners in interpretation learning strategies use? If there are, what are the differences? The following findings can be concluded from the thesis:first, on the whole, the frequency of interpretation learners in using interpretation learning strategies is at medium level. Interpretation learners use cognitive learning strategies the most frequently, followed by social/affective interpretation learning strategies, metacognitive interpretation learning strategies are the least used by interpretation learners. Second, successful learners use interpretation learning strategies more frequently than less successful interpretation learners. Third, successful interpretation learners use social/affective interpretation learning strategies the most frequently, then metacognitive interpretation learning strategies, last cognitive interpretation learning strategies. For less successful interpretation learners, from the most frequently used to least used, the order is cognitive interpretation learning strategies, social/affective interpretation learning strategies and metacognitive interpretation learning strategies. At last, the writer of the thesis gets some implications from the findings of the research and will give some suggestions for future study, so as to make a little contribution to interpretation teaching, learning and interpretation study.
