Chinese animation has glorious moment and entitled "Chinese School" in the world. However, today, the situation of Chinese animation is unsatisfactory. Because the maker of Chinese animation is occupied by foreign animation, especially by the Japanese animation. While the mainstream media response to the request of the State Administration of Radio who stopped playing foreign animation in prime time, but Chinese people are still uninterested in Chinese animation. We can blame for this result to modern technology because it provides a shortcut to foreign animation, but apparently this is only the external factors. The main reason that Chinese audience lost of interests in Chinese animation is some internal factors, for example meager characters, old stories, single technique of expression. In view of this, this research compares the differences of the "Journey to the West"(Chinese animation) and "Saiyuki"(Japanese animation) in term of character modeling, character, character relationships, narrative technique, then to explore the inadequacies of Chinese animation, to learn the experience in the development of Japanese animation, to provide some reference for the development of Chinese animation.This article is divided into four parts. The first part detailed analysis the different characteristics of two animations in head shape, props, color, Q version of expression and action signs from the static modeling and dynamic modeling of character. The second part starting from the characters of two animations find the differences in creative approaches and conception. The third part is discovered the different characteristics and maintain methods in the relationships of the "Journey to the West" and "Saiyuki", then digging behind the relationships of the creative intention. The fourth part from the narrative time and space were compared, to show the differences of narrative techniques.
