Also known as Zuozu (worshipping the ancestors), Panhuang Dance is the oldest sacrificial ritual of Aoyao Ethnic Group in Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County, Laibin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. In social life, the ritual and music of Panhuang Dance not only models, extends and strengthens characteristics of the Ethnic Group, and is also an effective way to activate group awareness, maintain authenticity and internal order of the Ethnic Group. With emergence of non-material cultural heritage protection and folk tourism, this ancient ritual musical dance makes a figure on the platform of "cultural performance" and evolves into music items of two natures:ritual and performance in the interaction and compromise of religion, art, tradition and modernity. This article will explore the interactive relation between traditional music and adherence to ethnicity in the transition between the two poles of religion and art. Based on the description of how to build ethnic group culture of Aoyao under heroic ancestor historic disposition (Chapter1), it depicts the individual case of traditional Huangpan ritual music in detail (Chapter2), comprehensively and systematically analyzes the only musical instrument in the ritual:Huangni Drum (Chapter3), and finally discusses the extension role of the traditional Panhuang ritual music on characteristics of the Ethnic Group and focuses on enhancement of ideographic cultural characteristics of the Ethnic Group after it is restructured into a stage art (Chapter4). Traditional music becomes non-material cultural resources of a specific group due to its uniqueness and turns into an internal factor that exhibits characteristics of the ethnic group and enhances the group cohesion whether it is used in ritual or performance.
