From Moderation To Peace Of Mind

Harmony, the concept of aesthetics of music, include moderation and peace of mind, is the most important concept in the history of Chinese aesthetic of music. The same portions of both can be described as two sides of the same coin, they are the products of the aesthetic principles. And the difference between them is the significantly two different development tracks of the aethetics of music. Moderation is the social criterion that comes from the combined of etiquete and music. Peace of mind is the pursuit of literati, it is the consciousness of artistic which like literary consciousness. The former is the objective constraints, and the latter is the subjective yearning. The former emphasis on form, the latter emphasis on content.The thesis is divided into three parts, the first part is the research of the word "He". The second part is the research of the connotation and social function of the concept moderation, which according to the books of the pre-Qin. The third part is the research of the germination of the peace of mind and the pursuit of literati who living in the Wei and Jin dynasties. It is obvious that the transition of moderation and peace of mind from the pre-Qin to Wei and Jin dynasties. Due to the author’s knowledge reserves and the depth of thought limited, analysis of this paper is superficial, only researched tentatively according to the historical records.
