Deng Erya is a successful and featured Yishan School engraving master of republican period in China. He spent his hole life peregrinating the places of Wan and Yi, first followed Deng Shiru in his engraving study and assimilated Deng Shiru’s seal script in his own way. Indulged in Huang Dufu’s style of dignified,simple and unadorned,then finally joined Huang Dufu’s factions. In his Creative ideas, mainly influenced by’origin from calligraphy’,’seals’style learn from other materials’ which created by Deng Shiru and developed by Zhao Zhiqian and Huang Dufu in the mid Qing dynasty. Some Chinese characters on bronzes like Ding and Li, Stele print of Qin and Han dynasty, tiles,coins also gave him inspiration, even some exotic characters such as Tangut and Manchu characters and some symbolic pattern for instance Gua text, Buddha statues. His performance practices of seal engraving mainly by means of delicate designing and arrangement of calligraphy and engraving which made his works with highly decorative taste and a inclination of design, all these factors made his works represented some main features of contemporary engraving. If we say that’Huang Shiling is the engraving master of special significance who succeed Ming and Qing dynasty’s engraving factions.’then Deng Erya must be the pioneer practitioner of contemporary engraving.
