It is very important to the artists how to process the space in Chinese ink paintingwhich is related to the expression of artistic conception. Space layout that decidesthe overall success or failure of Chinese ink painting is the first you see when youenjoy paintings. This is similar to the layout of weichi, One careless move may losethe whole game. Ingenious layout can not only make the picture become wonderful, but also cover up the shortcomings of picture. The spatial processing can clarify and highlight the theme so that the viewersfeel the artistic conception expressed by painters. Therefore, the spatial layout is thebase composed of art vitality and expressive force, in the meantime, it alsodemonstrates the self-cultivation and style of the artists. It is conceivable that spatialprocessing occupies a pivotal position for us in painting creation. In nearly a thousand years, Chinese ink painting in processing space has itsuniqueness which originated from Chinese peculiar culture and painting materials(writing brush, rice paper, ink and wash, etc.). These factors make picture space befull of sensible, flexible, changeable possibilities so that the methods of spatialprocessing are relatively free, pluralistic and subjective. In a sense, Chinese inkpainting sees everything with spiritual eye.Ink and wash space is a very mysterious world that can bring people into anunknown world. For painters, it is also a great challenge, because what painters cando is to control80%of expressions, while other20%are formed naturally by water, ink, color and idea. It is this uncertainty that makes us be curious to the ink world. This article explores the spatial processing of ink painting with a few aspects: theobjective and subjective expressions, lay paint on canvas, remarks on scrolls of calligraphy or painting, expression of artistic conception, self-cultivation and so on.Among these, there are a few inspirations of mine. With the development of Times, Chinese and western culture collide and fuse inthe different fields so that the expressions of ink and wash space are moremultivariant. The methods of western painting space processing are put into ink andwash, that is, the focus on the subjective expression of two-dimensional space turnsto the emphasis on the change of light, shape, square and cube in three-dimensionalspace. This can be good and bad, the good is the expressions of Chinese ink paintingare more colorful, the bad is the traditional factors are losing rapidly. Consequently,we have to face some fact Chinese ink painting is deteriorating. How to choosebetween them? How to make foreign things serve China? This depends on the artist’sown self-cultivation and preference. The significance of this study lies in realizing how Chinese ink painting toprocess space profoundly and multidimensionaly in order to solve some problems, such as messy, stiff, stay version, appearing in the painting space layout. I think wehave to grasp ink and wash space, if we want to promote our ability of realizingintegral space of picture.
